At Lakewood, we value the dedication of our staff and each person’s commitment to caring for the health and well-being of our residents. Our ability to deliver Lakewood’s mission of Dignity in Living is directly linked to the talents, expertise, and dedication of our employees. As a result, we encourage staff members and their children to fulfill their college aspirations and educational goals. Each year, Lakewood awards two $1,500 college scholarships to current staff members or their children who are good students and have extracurricular accomplishments in their school, church, and/or community. This year’s recipients are Kelly Root (upper photo), who qualified for the scholarship as the daughter of an employee, and Laralin Roland (lower photo), part-time employee in Dining Services.
Laralin shared these words of appreciation, “I’ve been working at Lakewood for almost two years now, and I’ve really enjoyed it so much. The relationships I’ve made here will stay with me forever. Even when I have a bad day, I know talking with the residents will remedy it. This scholarship means the world to me. I’ll use it towards tuition at Christopher Newport University, and I am so thankful for it. God is good!” Kelly expressed the following words of appreciation, “Lakewood’s generosity means a lot to me. With this scholarship I am able to fulfill VCU’s student laptop requirements. It enables me to purchase a long lasting and dependable school laptop. Thank you again Lakewood Community!”
The Lakewood family congratulates Laralin and Kelly and wishes them the best as they begin college this fall.
