At Lakewood, our enriched lifestyle focuses on continued learning, exploration and discovery. Abundant Arts and Education programming opens life up to new experiences and continued passions. Our wide variety of programs, events and excursions inspire and entertain our residents. Our programming is always changing and evolving based on resident suggestions and preferences.

In addition to the rich cultural and educational opportunities at Lakewood, residents enjoy old hobbies or develop new ones through our classes and workshops:

Visual Arts

Art classes are available from beginner to expert skill level. Lakewood has quite a few accomplished artists and many others who simply enjoy expressing themselves through the creative outlets of visual art. Some residents showcase their art and photography within on-campus galleries.

Performing Art

Music is a part of life here. Whatever your musical taste, there is something for you. Residents regularly perform informal concerts and organize sing-a-longs.

Cultural Trips and Events

Lakewood regularly schedules outings to cultural events and historical points of interest. Trips to the Richmond Symphony, the ballet, and theater fill Lakewood’s seasonal calendars, as well as tours of historical landmarks. The Richmond area offers an impressive variety of outlets for art, music, and theater including: the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, the Virginia Science Museum, and the Edgar Allan Poe Museum.

If your interest is in woodworking, Lakewood has a well-equipped woodshop where residents can hone their skills.
