About Lakewood

When Lakewood first opened its doors in 1979 in Richmond, Virginia, we became LifeSpire of Virginia’s third community. In 2016, we changed our name from Lakewood Manor to better reflect our growth and values. Today, our faith-based, nonprofit senior living community is home to more than 500 people and includes an even larger extended family of loved ones, friends, family members and supporters. If you ask any one of them about Lakewood, you might hear something like this:

“Our residents and family members feel the ease of retirement at Lakewood. There’s no need to worry about the little things. Our trained staff takes care of home maintenance and upkeep, so residents can explore the freedom of retirement. Whether it’s a lifelong passion or a newfound interest, residents always have more to discover at Lakewood.”

Lakewood senior living community is a place where state-of-the-art innovation meets excellent service, and where the spirit of hospitality, vibrant living and commitment to exceptional healthcare are the highest priorities.

Conveniently located on a beautiful and serene 128-acre wooded campus, Lakewood is just minutes from the dynamic shopping, restaurants and entertainment venues of Richmond’s West End. Downtown Richmond and all its cultural, historical, entertainment and dining experiences are just a short drive away.

Access to major interstates is close by, making day adventures to places like the mountains, beaches, historical sites and the vineyards of Charlottesville; Washington, D.C.; Williamsburg; and Virginia Beach a breeze. There are also 50 churches of all denominations within close driving distance of Lakewood, and many of them provide transportation to services.

Security and Peace of Mind

When you move to Lakewood, you’ll enjoy the confidence that comes from knowing you’ll always have access to a full continuum of quality care if you ever need it. You’ll also have the added security that comes from the generous support of the VBH Foundation.

For nearly 70 years, the VBH Foundation has served a very important mission: to support the work and ministry of LifeSpire of Virginia by raising funds to help our seniors enjoy a loving, welcoming community with quality care, security and peace of mind through their lifetime. This mission — and the spirit of its purpose and message — drives us to continually grow and improve so we can better serve those who need us most.

All our communities are inclusive and friendly, welcoming people of all faiths, beliefs and traditions. Our not-for-profit status means our highest commitment is to the people we serve, and all resources are reinvested in our communities to benefit residents and employees.
